LOCATION: St Ethelburga's Centre, 74 Bishopsgate, London EC2N 4AGTHIS EVENT HAS NOW SOLD OUT“All doubt, despair and fear become insignificant once the intention of life becomes love… Love is the bridge between you and everything” - RumiJoin us as we gather LIVE in community for this ceremony to connect to the wisdom of our beating hearts and the transformative power of the dance. We will begin our journey with the beautiful heart-opening medicine of ceremonial cacao. Central American ancestors used cacao as far back as 1900BC as a health elixir and ceremonial medicine to heal the mental, physical and spiritual body.As we set our intentions, we drop into an immersive and guided dance journey - tending to both the slow, deep, quiet spaces and the wild, free, expressive places of our hearts. Our movement becomes medicine, as we align the inner compass of the heart towards a greater sense of compassion for ourselves, each other and the wider web of life. Collectively we rise and radiate our love as a blessing into the world.TIMINGS1.00pm-1:20pm Arrival & Smudging1:30pm-4.30pm Cacao Ceremony & Movement MedicinePlease note we ask everyone to arrive by 1:20pm and the doors will close at 1:30pm. We’re creating a sacred container for your journey and ask that everyone arrive on time so we can start together. Thank you.MINDFULNESS IN DRINKING CACAOAs we work with cacao in an intentional way, we peel away the layers and come into deeper connection with our emotional centre and the intelligence of our own hearts. Aside from its many physical health benefits (vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, immune system boosting etc) it is a powerful yet gentle plant medicine that supports our inner-work and facilitates a deep inner meditation. The mood-enhancing neurotransmitters in cacao have a nourishing effect on humans - opening body, mind and heart. Please be aware of the following when drinking ceremonial cacao:‣ Our beautiful blend contains date syrup, tahini and spices. If you cannot have any of these, please get in touch no later than 24 hours prior to the event.‣ Arrive hydrated - drink lots of water before - and avoid caffeine or other stimulants on the day and alcohol the night before. Eat something light a few hours before the ceremony (plant based is great) and then we suggest you refrain from eating so that the cacao can be easily absorbed.‣ As cacao is a stimulant, you may want to start with less and then gradually increase to find the balance that works for you. After your first sip of cacao, wait about 30 mins before drinking water, so the cacao has time to land in the body. Cacao is great for detoxing, so drink plenty of water afterwards.‣ Important to note that certain medications, such as some SSRI and MAO inhibitor antidepressants, do not mix well with cacao due to the tyramine in chocolate.‣ If you have high blood pressure or a heart condition, please be aware that the active ingredient theobromine increases heart rate and lowers blood pressure.‣ Pregnant or breastfeeding women - please be aware of the stimulating effect of cacao. Our movement is the medicine - so even if you choose not to imbibe the cacao or have a micro dose, we are all held in the strong container of our dance together.SAFETY NOTEThe safety and well-being of our community are paramount. Please take a free lateral flow test in advance, and if it is positive, or if you're exhibiting any covid-related symptoms, we ask you not to come in person but head to our streaming platform and join us virtually instead.
Get the day off to a purposeful start. Join ChenZu for a playful mix of basic yoga, asanas, stretching and breathing to clear away blockages and sharpen up your body and mind.
This practice is a great heart-starter for individuals of all ages and levels, and an ideal opportunity to focus on yourself and gently activate your mind-body energy. As a musician, ChenZu also introduces binaural beats and sounds - two different rhythms working simultaneously - which work at a deeper level on the endocrine system, helping us to balance our hormones and emotions. In these changing times, this is a valuable, lesser-known tool for self-care, which also helps us increase focus and concentration, lower stress, manage pain and promote creativity.

Otherwise please create a water ceremony. Pour yourself a glass of water - if you can, use spring water. Working with water in an intentional manner is a beautiful practice as we know from Dr. Masaru Emoto’s incredible work. You can engage with the cacao ceremony in the same way as you drink the water in an intentional manner. Ultimately movement is the medicine.
